# Rate limits

| What's limited               | Limit                            | Applies to                                                                                                       |
| ---------------------------- | -------------------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Each application | 120 requests a minute by default | All `/v1` calls, across all of its tokens |
| Each application | The same number again | `/oauth/token` and `/oauth/revoke` together, counted apart from `/v1` |
| Each developer | 300 requests a minute | `/v1` calls from all of a developer's unverified applications together, so extra applications don't add capacity |
| Failed client authentication | 20 a minute per IP address       | `/oauth/token` and `/oauth/revoke`. Once reached, these return `429 slow_down` for up to a minute                |
| Starting authorization       | 20 a minute per IP address       | `GET /oauth/authorize`, which is opened by each user's browser                                                   |

Windows are fixed at one minute. Your application's limit is on its page in the Developer Portal. To ask for a higher one, email <main@floral.fun>.

`/v1` responses include:

| Header                  | Meaning                              |
| ----------------------- | ------------------------------------ |
| `X-RateLimit-Limit`     | Your application's budget per minute |
| `X-RateLimit-Remaining` | Requests left in this window         |
| `X-RateLimit-Reset`     | Seconds until the window resets      |

Over the limit, you receive `429` with `Retry-After` in seconds: `rate_limited` on `/v1`, and `slow_down` on `/oauth/token` and `/oauth/revoke`. These headers describe the application's budget, so a `429` from the developer budget can arrive while `X-RateLimit-Remaining` is above zero. Always follow `Retry-After`.

A `/v1` request with a missing or invalid token returns `401` and doesn't count towards your budget.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.floral.fun/developer-resources/rate-limits.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
